Poor Hazel

I put Hazel down at 6 and she started crying at 7. I thought that that was strange. Let her cry for a few minutes and then went in. Poor Hazel. I had left the light on when I left the room. Her expression said, "Mom! How on earth am I supposed to sleep when the light is on in here!?!"

Not really sure what I was thinking.

I really shouldn't be in customer service....

I was on the phone this morning leaving a message for a customer, rambling as I always do on voicemail and at the end started saying something that I very much regret. I don't know what my little brain was thinking, but I started to say "in Jesus' name we pray, amen."

Luckily I caught myself and the only thing that came out was "in Je." I paused and then said, "have a great day" and hung up the phone. Hopefully this woman doesn't realize what I was saying and just thinks that I don't speak clearly. I am horrifyingly embarrassed and feel ridiculous; I mean in what world would my brain think that leaving a voicemail was the same thing as praying?

Anyways, I think I'm done for the day. I need to go home.

Watch out attackers...

This afternoon was wonderful. As I was jogging around our neighborhood, the kids delivering the afternoon local paper weren't wearing parkas and goggles. Joggers weren't wearing two sweatshirts. There was a myriad of bikers, moms with strollers, and walkers out and about. I saw two squirrels chasing each other up a tree. Some kids played a game of basketball at the park. And...I could see some green budding starting to emerge from the trees. Call me crazy, but I think spring is almost here.

After I jogged for twenty minutes (who out there is proud of me, let's see a show of hands) I walked home. But then this really great, really loud song came on my MP3 player (which by the way you shouldn't listen to too loudly, but that's a whole other story) and of course I turned it up way too loud. I sprinted the last block home, skipping, etc... As I went into our apartment, I told myself to not freak out when I saw Jason, because I couldn't hear anything and not to react as though he were an attacker.

He unfortunately popped out of the kitchen when I came in. I screamed and jumped into defense position (maybe those self defense moves we learned in high school actually sunk in) with my legs crouched and my arms ready to go. He screamed in response and jumped two feet in the air, nearly dropping his toast.

So we had a good laugh about that.

Another thing about jogging. I bought my running shoes when I was 14 and we were in Washington DC because my mother didn't think it wise to let her middle child spend two weeks walking around in flip flops (I have no defense. I was 13 and thought it was cool). And I still wear them. Yes, they look a little used, but not nearly 10 years worth. They have been up Half Dome twice and to Japan, Guatemala, and New York City, but really, it's kind of sad that I haven't needed a new pair.

Major embarrassing moment...

When we took the car in on....I think it was Wednesday....to get it evaluated and estimated for it's repairs I made a mistake. In the repair shop I went to use the restroom. But I failed to notice that the water in the bowl was already down very low. When I flushed....gaaahh! The water came up to the very rim of the bowl. I was praying for it to stop. It did. I grabbed the plunger and started working. The water went down. I flushed again and continued plunging. And.....the toilet overflowed. All over the floor. Of a bathroom that wasn't mine.

So I had to go out there and tell the nice mechanic that I trashed his bathroom. Sigh.

On the bright side, we're getting the car fixed and thank you very much for car insurance and deductibles. $3900 would be our total, if we didn't have insurance. Gaah!

Is This For Someone's Amusement?

I'm sure you all have experienced those automatic toilet flushers that they now have in airport bathrooms. Of course the University of California can't be ranked as "lagging" in implementing public bathroom technology advancements, so the good people that brought you a cow with a hole in her stomach can now provide you with an stress-free restroom experience.

Except if you're me that is.

I went to the restroom today and, like any good citizen, got a seat cover, put it down, turned around and...the toilet flushed. Confused, I repeated the process....only to have it flush again. Getting a little angrier, I grabbed my third seat cover, put it in place, moved a little too far to the left and.....flush! This happened several times more until I managed to confuse the censor by waving my hand in front of it. In its efforts to be efficient, the flusher managed to waste a lot of paper product and made my restroom experience much more stressful than I had originally imagined.
