The last few days

Ok people, time for your opinions/ideas/suggestions. We're starting to think about potty training and were wondering about recommendations for techniques or books to read or just some good ideas to start getting the idea into a little brain.

Here are some pictures from the last few days.

Reading in bed; she's considering studying viticulture and enology.

we are still working on potty training here. the first time i tried it was not working, so we took a break, and when we started back up, it went lots smoother. so don't worry if it doesn't go great the first time around, and don't worry if you need to stop, and start again a month or two later. it may not be ideal, but she will be potty trained eventually. Good luck!
ps watch out-little girls can get pee everywhere, which i did not expect!

At work, we have lots of books about it. Also, we let the kids sit on the toilet when they show an interest in it. From what I've seen, a lot of the kids show more interest in using a toilet when they see their peers using it. I have three 26 month old boys that still need to be potty trained and only one is interested in sitting on the toilet. He'll be the easy one. I'm told to wait until the others start to show interest, so I'm reading books to them about it to plant an interest.

Ohhh.... and when the kids start going potty in the toilet we do a bid song and dance - literally. Also, one teacher bribes with sweets or stickers (but bribing isn't really good, I know)

I have worked with mostly toddlers and babies for the past three years, and it depends on the individual child, but usually a good time to start is when the child is anywhere between 30 to 36 months old. Usually before then, they really don't understand or comprehend the point of going on the potty, but you can always try. A great way to start is to buy a little potty chair, and make it a "fun" time, of having them sit on the potty while you read/sing/talk to them, and if they happen to go, praise them! Giving a little treat (dried fruit even works if they like it) after they go never hurts either. Each child is so different, and everyone learns at their own pace, it usually will just click eventually with much work and patience.
