Cloth diapering

To please my readers, I will now offer an update on the adventure of cloth diapering.

Simply put, it's incredibly easy! When we first switched over from disposable to cloth after about a week and a half (I wouldn't wish cleaning meconium out of a cloth diaper on anyone), I was intimidated at first, but then I realized that the only thing extra I have to do now is wash the diapers once I take them off her instead of just tossing them.

We haven't had any problems at all, the only slightly hard aspect is getting stains out. But a little bit of bleach takes care of that, even though all the "green" diapering websites say NEVER to use it. Apparently it will make her tush red, but I haven't seen any evidence of that yet.

We're using the flat diapers and then waterproof covers and it's quite easy. You just put the diaper in the cover and fold it up and snap it shut. Ta da. I'll take some pictures for illustrative purposes.

I just love how easy it is and also how cheap and the fact that we're not filling up landfills with hundreds and hundreds of disposables. I have a neato little bag too that's waterproof that I take with me in her diaper bag wherever we go, so I can throw her dirty ones in there while we're out and about.

I would definitely recommend doing cloth to anyone and until she starts eating regular food, I don't see myself getting ever completely grossed out by her poopy diapers. They don't even really smell bad yet. So I would argue that cloth diapers are better since they're cheaper, better for the environment, and just more wholesome. :)

I'm glad it working out for you guys too! We love them so far. Even with a little bit of solid food, its still bearable. Although I could see a diaper sprayer coming in handy.
I'm excited to see the illustrations.

First off - thanks for doing your part. I appreciate the effort!

Second - until real food the poo is a non issue, you're right.

Third - if you do a second rinse after that bleach it will remain a non-problem.

Happy Mothering!

I'm impressed! I did cloth for about two weeks and gave it up. My mom told me if you lay the diapers on the grass the stains will come out. A chemical reaction with the sun and grass maybe? Anyway, that was a trick her 90 year old neighbor taught her when I was a baby:)!
