Well - its been a little while since I posted anything on here, a week to be precise. And to appease the pleas of my constituents and fans around the world (well, ok, those who live in my house and those who pretend to live at my house) here you go.
My sister, her boyfriend, my fiance, and I went bowling last night and I have come to the conclusion that the Manteca bowling alley is a sadistic institution. When an unfortunate bowler has the problem of oh....not hitting any pins and watching their ball slowly roll down the gutter, instead of being an encouragement the computer flaunts their athletic inabilities for all to see. The screen gleefully proclaims, "GUTTER BALL!!!" to all those within viewing distance, for those unable to see the already disappointed expression if the soon-to-be-non-bowler. And for the record, this did not happen to me all that often. In fact, I won the second game - 107 points thank you very much! I think that instead of tearing down the wanna-be-bowlers, the computer should make encouraging remarks such as "Better Luck Next Time" or "Come On - You Can Do It". Maybe even an occasional, "Its Ok. You Don't Need to Be Validated by Me, a Computer Who is Physically Unable to Throw a 10 lb Ball Down the Lane. You Are a Valuable Member of Society Regardless of Your Bowling Score."
Next Topic: TV News Anchors
I love watching the news. Not only are you caught up on the events of the day, but you have the opportunity to make fun of the people trying to bring you some edifying information. On Tuesday night while watching the 10 o'clock news, my friends and I noticed that the male news anchor (he shall remain nameless) on a local station is actually about a foot shorter than his female counterpart. Instead of embracing his height, George (name changed to protect the innocent) pops his chair up several inches above his co-anchor's to appear taller. Why must the man be taller than the woman? Is it such a societal standard to have taller men that this news anchor must lie to his public? What a sad, sad world we live in.
