We Just Don't Feel Like It

This evening I am once again returning to the subject of AAA, but this time to write an actual complaint about the company. My friend Wes told me that several weeks ago, he and a friend were driving around rural Iowa (oh wait, the entire state of Iowa is rural...let's just say it was really, really, really far out from any town) when his friend's truck died. Wes immediately thought, "We can call AAA and then they'll come out and assist us!"

So they proceeded to phone the operator and arrange for a towtruck to come out to help them out of this sticky little situation. Let us also note that it was around 11 o'clock at night. After waiting....and waiting.........and waiting........and waiting, Wes phoned the AAA operator back to inquire when the towtruck would be arriving. It was at this point that the AAA operator informed Wes, "Oh...yeah. Well....no one really wants to drive out there. We've called several companies and nobody wants to go out and get you. Sorry."

Isn't that their job? Isn't that the very purpose of AAA? Shouldn't they cease to exist now because they have gone against the doctrine of their organization? If something goes against the very being of their existence, don't they explode or something? I don't remember the end of the story, but Wes is back in California now, so I'm assuming they got home alright...no thanks to AAA.
