Things and people around the house

A few things I'm loving of late...

Of course this little man, who is almost one year old! He is super mischevious and goofy. He also loves to pretend to cook with Hazel in their play kitchen. Jason is excited to get him a "man toy" for his birthday...
*I just realized how this sounds. Jason's toy for Klaas is not related to Klaas' love of cooking. We hope that they both become chefs and open a cleverly named restaurant, Shoe's Sushi or something similar...

My new embroidered tablecloth that we got for a decent price at an overpriced "garage sale" (actually a regular antique sale on Bainbridge Island). Jason was also happy with his bargained-down...hmmm...I can't remember what he bought. I think an antique chalkline? My husband does love his old tools.

Red leather Swedish clogs for Hazel....that will fit her in about 3 years. I found them at the thrift store for 99 cents. So I have plenty of time to try and clean the marker marks off the wooden heel. For some reason, children love to write on their footwear.

Flowers from the picking garden.

Our thoughtful girl. She has been saying the most hilarious things lately, most of which I try to write down, but forget quickly thereafter. We do love listening to her prayers at dinner time, which usually consist of thanking God for every item on the table, every family member, both present and distant, that she can remember, and some miscellaneous item (her toothbrush, her coloring book, etc...). She is also obsessed with reading Charlie and Lola books (!) from the library, her new Richard Scarry book about firefighters, pretending to be Maria in The Sound of Music, changing her dolls' diapers, and finding things for her daddy to fix. Today it was a house that we walked past that had had a fire last night. Thankfully everyone is ok, but the roof was caved in and the whole thing looks like it will have to be bulldozed. Hazel commented as we walked past, "Daddy should fix that house!"

Attempting to grow sprouts for the first time. This was the weekly project at the co-op kids craft time. We have mung bean, radish seed, and something else I can't remember. We're on day 3 and they should fill up the jar by the end of the weekend. That's when we hull. More on the results later...

And this space-age looking thing next to our refrigerator? Well, actually I'm not loving this in the living room and I need to carve out a space for it in our closet, but I do love the results of the machine. This is Jason's yogurt incubator he made a couple of weeks ago. In the past he has used our oven with the light on to "cook" the yogurt, but since our current oven doesn't have a light, he came up with this design. But that's just our house for you...you never know what you will find around here.
