The sponge

We have been starting realize what a little sponge our little girl is. Last night I decided to see what she remembered, so I started reciting parts from Madeline, The Barnyard Dance, and some of her other favorite books (since I read these books every day, I pretty much have them memorized). The result? She knew almost all the words. She can also sing the entire song of Doe a Deer, Our Father, and she loves to belt out Ladleveis (or Edleweiss as it is more commonly known). She's getting there in knowing the alphabet and can count (sort of....her order goes 1, 2, 3, 7, 9, 10, 11). She jabbers a lot, but for some reason still we don't always think of her as someone who remembers things. That is changing! She talks about events that happened last week or even a month ago.

It's funny how you think you know where your child is, but then they surprise you by surpassing your expectations. It's also a good reminder for us to watch what we say (not that it's that bad, bit I've heard Hazel mutter "Oh shoot" when she drops something) and to also check our attitudes if we're having a bad day.

This also happened last night when Klaas started flipping himself over onto his stomach in his sleep. It might be that Hazel was late doing this because we swaddled her until she was maybe 5 months old, but Klaas is definitely a fast mover and grower. We have his 4-month checkup this afternoon. We'll see how huge he is now!
