I am a college graduate. I even have the paper to prove it. I had to go to class (well, sometimes) and I had to research, write, and read to get that piece of paper. I have been told that I'm not a complete idiot and actually am a good employee by past supervisors.
So why then can I not find a well-paying job? That's all I want. Of course, if the job was within my field, that would be an added bonus, but I'm not even asking for that. I had a job interview this week to be a receptionist at a vet clinic my friend works at. I think it would be fun since animals are fun little people and I can do the whole office schpiel. Plus it's a very nice clinic with live-in cats and the staff is fantastic. But when I brought my paperwork in today and to tell the office manager that I would take the job, she told me it paid $7.50 per hour. I don't think so! That's what I got paid at Starbucks for pushing buttons and cleaning the bathroom. So I politely told her what I had been paid in the past and my pay requirements for the future and she said that they would get back to me. So we'll just have to wait and see.
My other beef is this: I applied recently for to be an administrative assistant. They told me thanks for applying, but the job required more experience. Ummm......ok? I have a college degree (I hate to keep bringing this up, but doesn't that count for anything?). I have worked in an office since I was 17 and been told I was good at it. I have done every aspect of the required work listed in the job description before save one. I mean, I think I could handle being an assistant. Really. Seriously. Am I crazy?
