A woman is admitted to the hospital to give birth to her son. She is healthy and delivers a healthy baby. The next thing she knows, they tell her she has to have a hysterectomy because of a flesh-eating bacteria, streptococcus. Within 12 days, the infection has progressed so much that she has 2 hours to decide if she wants to live or die. If she wants to live, she has to have all her limbs removed. So she goes for the living option and no longer has arms or legs.
Then, once she finishes physical therapy and goes home, she and her husband want to find out what happened to her. Did someone else in the hospital have the disease? Was it a hygiene issue?
Very good questions, right? Well, the hospital is basically refusing to give this woman any answers. They are refusing to tell her what happened because of an issue with a Florida's patient's bill of rights.
If I went into the hospital to have my baby and came out without my limbs....heads would roll, to say the very least. How ridiculous can this be? Not only have they permanently damaged this woman from their negligence or whatever happened, they're not giving her the dignity of a straight answer.
My word.
