And This is Why We All Need Cell Phones

I had an interesting day yesterday. My very good friend, who we'll call Ulaylee, called me and left a frantic message on my voicemail. "Liz!! Oh my gosh! Oiopfnksf uioupoiu asdfjlk;jiuj!!!!!!! Oh my gosh!" Click. I couldn't understand the bulk of her message, but I got that it was urgent, hurried, and very tense. So I worried. And worried. Listened to the message again; still couldn't get it. Called Ulaylee twice and left messages, but she never called me back. I wondered if she'd had an accident, was possibly kidnapped and had called to tell me, had gotten fired, set fire to her hair, been bitten by a rabid gerbil, or any other horrible scenario.

But I never heard from her about what happened. So I went to bed.

And then was woken up at 5 am by Ulaylee calling me back.

Me: groggily, "Hello?"
Her: "Hi!"
Me: "Are you ok?"
Her: "Oh yeah, just getting ready for work."
Me: "Why on earth are you calling me at this hour?"
Her: "I thought I'd get your voicemail! Why is your phone on?"
Me: "People don't usually call me at 5 o'clock in the morning."
Her: "Oh. Well, I was just calling you back to tell you what I said on the phone since you didn't understand. I got pooped on by a bird."

I am glad (seriously here), that we have such a good friendship that we can call eachother for such random stuff. I know I've called her with some useless information, like I'm mad at my mom, or I have pink eye, but its good to know that she'll be there to answer the phone. And I'm always glad to hear from her because who knows what she'll tell me next.

I am bound by the journalistic code of blogging to protect my sources, but I will tell you that "Ulaylee" lives in Saskatchewan, Canada and raises flamingos and gerbils for a living. I think you may have met her once or twice at our Christmas parties.
