To continue the saga of the weekend from....well, you know where....
Mel and Vasiliy's wedding was wonderful and fun and all that good stuff. After the wedding, my family and Jason and I went back to my wonderful sauna (aka my apartment) to enjoy the hot weather. Jason and I went out to get ice cream and talk since he was leaving the following Tuesday (the 10th). Then he went home and my family went to bed late, tossing and turning in the heat.
Sunday morning dawned bright and early and we all got up around 6 to make our flight to San Diego. (Sidenote: I don't like it when I have to go places on Sundays because it completely messes up my sense of the week and I hate missing church.) Flight = not fun because pilot was not so good and had a bad landing. But it was good I guess in the sense that we were going to see Scott and Elisa's wedding.
Now we come to the fun part of the story. After picking up my friend Carrie at the airport (she flew in from Oakland), we rented our car and drove to the motel after eating lunch. My dad had called the day before to make sure we could check in early, as the wedding was at 3pm and we needed time to freshen up. "Sure, no problem! You can check in at 12" he was assured. Got to the hotel and "What?!? You can't check in until 2!" (We needed to leave by 1:45 for the wedding.) "Um....you told me yesterday that we could check in at noon." "Well, you can't, so there! Phhhhhh!" (Well, the clerk didn't actually didn't stick out his tongue and blow a rasberry, but that was his attitude.)
This continued to go around in circles until my dad decided that we weren't going to stay there. The clerk said fine and gave us a phone book. (Sidenote #2: isn't it better for a business to try and accomodate its customers and find them a clean room rather than lose 2 rooms for a night?) Started calling around to find another hotel and then Mr. Snotty (aka the desk clerk) came up and told us that yes, in fact, our rooms were ready and we could check in. Half an hour later (those guys work fast) we went upstairs to change for the wedding. But noooooo......the keys didn't work! In fact, the encoding machine "had a habit of not working" so they had to send the guy up to fix it.
Finally got to the wedding - and it was beautiful. Really and truly. Scott and Elisa are so perfect for one another and I really pray that God will bless them in their marriage. Seeing them together and being so happy is a great joy.
We were sad though because my brother would have been Scott's best man. I tried not to think about it too much, but it did stay on my thoughts the whole day.
Beautiful wedding, great location (an old estate on top of a mountain - lots of trees, grass, nature - fun!).
But there is still more, oh yes! To be continued...
